After the recent changes I made to my ideas for the sequences, I decided to have another look to try and find a more definite way that Kerrang incorporates their logos within adverts, and whilst looking I came across this example below which I have decided to use within the sequences that I produce.

Top Ten - Blink 182 TV Channel Ident?
I need to decide a TV channel that will air the programme that I am producing the sequences for. So because it is about music, it will need to be a music channel. The ones I can think of that would be suitable are:
The ones in this one use a lot more photographs and video recorded imagery, and the way that they get the Kerrang logo into them is by having a guy in a yellow suit dance as the black logo appears on the screen and shakes. This would be a lot harder for me to reproduce and use for my idents.
There isn't really any other proper examples I can find for Kerrang so I have decided to watch a few for other music channels as well to see if there's anything from then I could maybe interpret into mine.
- MTV
- MTV Rock
- 4 Music
- Kerrang
- Lava
- Scuzz
Although I do think MTV would be appropriate with it being an American channel, and Blink 182 are American, the channel plays a lot more actual TV shows than music lately so I have decided to avoid this. I am a bit torn between 4 Music and Kerrang - although I do think Kerrang has a lot more of a suited audience than what 4 Music will have so I will go ahead and use Kerrang as the TV channel that the sequences will be produced for.
I will now have a look at a variety of TV idents that they have produced to get an idea of what they use and could maybe influence what I will do.
This has a variety of idents using similar aspects but each one still individual. I really like how they just have the Kerrang logo appear/zoom into the screen at the end of the sequence. I think this will be the way that I tie it in within my sequences.

Top Ten - Blink 182 10 Seconds?
In order to gather the specific content for my design board, I will listen through each of the top ten songs I have and find a possible 10 second section within the song that I could use for one of the shorter sequences, and I will then note down the specific lyrics within this section to then put on to the design board. I haven't decided exactly which songs I want to use yet so I will do it for them all to keep my options open.
The section from this song that I would use is from 2:14 - 2:24, and the lyrics in this section are:
Say it aint so, I will not go. Turn the lights off, carry me home. Keep your head still, I'll be your thrill.
Adam's Song
The section from this song that I would use is from 2:32 - 2:42, and the lyrics in this section are:
We couldn't wait to get outside. The world was wide, too late to try. The tour was over, we'd survived.
First Date
The section from this song that I would use is from 0:57 - 1:07, and the lyrics in this section are:
Let's go, don't wait. This night's almost over. Honest, let's make, this night last forever.
What's My Age Again?
The section from this song that I would use is from 1:01 - 1:11, and the lyrics in this section are:
And are still more amused by prank phone calls, what the hell is call ID? My friends say I should act my age. What's my age again? What's my age again?
Always
The section from this song that I would use is from 2:12 - 2:22, and the lyrics in this section are:
Hold you, touch you, feel you, always. Kiss you, taste you, all night, always.
Dammit
The section from this song that I would use is from 1:14 - 1:24, and the lyrics in this section are:
But everybody’s gone, and I’ve been here for too long, to face this on my own. Well I guess this is growing up.
The Rock Show
The section from this song that I would use is from 1:06 - 1:16, and the lyrics in this section are:
She's so cool, gonna sneak in through her window. Everything's better when she's around, I can't wait til her parents go out of town. I fell in love with the girl at the rock show.
Feeling This
The section from this song that I would use is from 2:18 - 2:28, and the lyrics in this section are:
Fate fell short this time, your smile fades in the summer. Place your hand in mine, I'll leave when I wanna.
Stay Together For The Kids
The section from this song that I would use is from 0:43 - 0:53, and the lyrics in this section are:
If my stupid poem could fix this home, I'd read it every day. So here's your holiday.
I Miss You
The section from this song that I would use is from 2:03 - 2:13, and the lyrics in this section are:
Don't waste your time on me you're already a voice inside my head. I miss you, miss you, miss you.

Top Ten - Blink 182 Colour Pallet?
Considering the colour pallet that I will use for my sequences, when ever I think of Blink 182 I automatically think of this album cover:
So I thought I could go on to use these 4 colours as my colour pallet.
I am quite liking the idea of having the type either black or white then the background of the videos to be one of the colours. I think it could look quite good to get a similar texture to the background similar to the ones in the colours on the album cover. The only flaw really with this colour pallet is that all of the songs in the top ten aren't from this album. I think for the newer fans of Blink this would probably go unnoticed, but I expect the audience of this programme to be bother new and old fans and the older fans will probably point it out straight away. These are the colours that are probably most associated with the band though these days due to the success of this album.
A way that I could possibly get around this could be to have a colour pallet for each album that they have released, and use that for the songs of them albums. For example, the album above is the Self Titled album, and the songs in the top ten from this album are:
- I Miss You
- Always
- Feeling This
The tracks from Take Off Your Pants And Jackets album are:
- First Date
- Rock Show
- Stay Together For The Kids
The tracks from Dude Ranch album are:
- Dammit
The tracks from Enema of the State album are:
- All The Small Things
- What's my Age Again?
- Adam's Song
So the possible colour pallets for the other 3 albums along side the Self Titled album could be:
Enema of the State
Dude Ranch
Take Off Your Pants And Jackets
Whilst this would probably be the most suitable to do in order to keep the tracks looking like they are from the right album, it could cause a little confusion at some point if not to me but to someone I try to explain my idea to. One thing I could do would be to only use songs that appear on one album from the top ten, that was I will only need to stick to one colour pallet, or I could just use one that could be used for them all.
They released a greatest hits album just before they broke up, I could look at the colour pallet I would get from this.
This would just be a simple black and grey colour pallet.
Whilst I think this could possibly work, I don't know if it will leave the sequences looking a little too plain? Although it will probably be tonnes easier to work with just a 2 coloured colour pallet. I do like the idea of the textures though as I mentioned with the first colour pallet. Maybe I could look at having either a textured grey or black background similar to the other textures and then the opposite colour could be used for the colour of the typeface.
Top Ten - Blink 182 Typeface?
As much as I would love to design my own font for this brief, I know full well it will take me too long and I will have to then compromise what I am actually supposed to be doing, so I have decided to look on DaFont to find relevant typefaces similar to what I am looking for.
The main genre that Blink 182 are describes as is Punk, so I want a typeface that's bold, and a little destroyed, but not too much so that it doesn't look too decorative. I will look in the destroyed section on the website to see what there is.

Above are the ones that caught my eye whilst I was looking, I have now selected a few of these that I could possibly actually use.
I have chosen these 4 because although they are 'damaged', they still have quite a neat form about them which is something I will probably require in order to get the sequenced that I produce to run smoothly and fit together. I will download all 4, and type a few things out using them to see which one works the best out of them.
28 Days Later
I do actually really like this typeface. The biggest problem though is the fact that there isn't any punctuation marks in it. When ever I typed one it just automatically changed to the default Illustrator typeface which is a bit annoying. I would have to either find a typeface that would work along with this to use to have the punctuation marks (because I definitely need them as I explained in the kinetic type videos I collected) or I simply just can't use this typeface.
Very Damaged
I think the white space within the letterforms on this typeface may be a little too much. I do like it but I don't want to make the sequences look tacky so this will stick as a maybe for now - see how the others turn out. The punctuation marks work on this one though which is a bonus.
Base 02
This typeface works really well on the name and the Top Ten title, but once I applied it to the longer copy examples it starts to look a bit too much and looking at it from a distance just doesn't really look good at all. If I was to only use a little text at a time then it could possibly work, but definitely not if I choose to have a full sentence or two on screen.
Living Hell
This typeface surprised me to be honest as I didn't think it was going to work really well, but the actual properly damaged letterforms are just really the uppercase letters so it doesn't over glorify it once it is applied to a longer body of text. The 'lowercase' letters, even though they are still uppercase just a fraction smaller have very little effect added to them so it still ties in with the uppercase letters, but doesn't over power the text too much. I really like this one and I think this will be the one that I choose to use in my sequences.
Top Ten - Blink 182 Kinetic Type - Violence
I quite like how they have when there is two words after each other that use the same letter in each joined these together. This is shown in the thumbnail in the video above as like the preview of the video before you press play, this is what I mean. It could be another little effect to maybe try. Also, I like the last bit where the title of the song comes up at the end - maybe not something I could do for 10 second sequences but it is a consideration.
Top Ten - Blink 182 Kinetic Type - Heart's All Gone
I like how this is quite a racey song, and the type is always moving when it's on the screen - it really links with the pace of the song which I think works really effectively. Also, they in times use the words to make sort of images, for example when the lyrics read 'they say you speak from your heart but your heart's all gone', they have the type appear so that when that line finishes it quite effectively makes the shape of a heart - I like this and may try it if it seems appropriate for what I do.
Top Tee- Blink 182 Kinetic Type - I Miss You
Again, the punctuation during this video is shocking. Also, they have made the first letter on every single word they have used a capital which just looks crap and completely un necessary. The typeface they have chosen isn't the most appropriate in my opinion either, and the whole way through the words seem to lag behind the actual song by about half a second. I need to remember that I need to try my best to get it bang on to when the word appears in the song to match on the screen.
Top Ten - Blink 182 Kinetic Type - Not Now
I'm including this example really to show a bad example - where to start? The spelling and punctuation throughout is shocking. I will definitely see this as a lesson learnt to check and check again on this to make sure I get it right. They have also used things like 'U R' instead of 'you are' which I think just looks crap as well. Also, the fonts that have been used are just way too decorative and even hard to read at times. If the sound was to be turned off it maybe wouldn't make sense, and the time lapse at the end for about half a minute where nothing is happening just looks crap as well.
Top Ten - Blink 182 Kinetic Type - First Date
I am not too keen on this video, I'm not sure why though it just feels a little sloppy. I do like the way that when the word forever is repeated, they re use the one that is already on screen quite effectively - this may be something I also consider doing. As well as again with the depth of the screen seeming really deep, I really like this effect.
Top Ten - Blink 182 Kinetic Type - Online Song
I really like the way that they have used the space in this video, and really added depth to it as though the type (at times) is deeper away from the surface of the screen. I think this looks really effective and just makes it look a bit better. Also, the way that the first few seconds is done is really interesting and is something I hope to at least experiment with in what I do. Also, I think it's interesting how they have included images along side the type during the video, especially when it introduces the guys in the band.
Top Ten - Blink 182 Kinetic Type - First Date
I like the backgrounds through this video, although I think the timing of the type appearing spot on to the words is a little off, and is a little delayed at times. This is an important aspect to get right when it comes to kinetic type. I like the white on the dark backgrounds though.

All the small things
True care truth brings
I'll take one lift
Your ride best trip
Always I know
You'll be at my show
Watching, waiting, commiserating
Say it ain't so, I will not go
Turn the lights off, carry me home
Na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Late night, come home
Work sucks, I know
She left me roses by the stairs
Surprises let me know she cares
Say it ain't so, I will not go
Turn the lights off, carry me home
Na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Say it ain't so, I will not go
Turn the lights off, carry me home
Keep your head still, I'll be your thrill
The night will go on, my little windmill
Say it ain't so, I will not go
Turn the lights off, carry me home
Keep your head still, I'll be your thrill
The night will go on,
The night will go on,
My little windmill
About This Track Source
“All The Small Things” is a song by blink-182, from their 1999 album Enema Of The State. It was written by Tom DeLonge after his girlfriend Jen Jenkins, who eventually became his wife, complained that he wrote many songs about other girls he knew in his life but none about her. Tom convinced Jen that it was terrible and then it reached number one on the Modern Rock Tracks. The line “She left me roses by the stairs, surprises let me know she cares” actually happened when one night Tom came home late and his girlfriend had left him roses.
